To do is to learn - a sketching class.

All of 2012, I got a lot of time to read, reflect, draw, write (a bit) and one thing I finally accepted – that I am incorrigibly LAZY!
If this sounds contradictory, it is because I feel I have not done as much as I could have.
Therefore, in a mood of learning, interaction, I joined a sketching class with the intention of getting my figurative drawing in shape! :-)

The best thing about going to this class is I am with little kiddos who are just as tall as the table, yes, Lilliput sized, but hugely creative and skilled! There are grey haired grown-ups too and it is a lively, mixed atmosphere full of activity!

I realize that I need to hone my skills to be a more effective painter. I need to combine technique with imagination, because one without the other leads to lifeless art that does not speak to me.

Here are some sketches I did.

I am learning about light and proportion with each drawing I make.

  11. Awesome! :) I love the gesture and figure drawings. These are looking fantastic. Thanks for joining in on Art Resource Saturday. You've reminded me that I've been wanting to look at our local community college for evening life drawing classes.

  12. Oh, and I copied and pasted the two paragraphs of wingdings (I love that word :) on to a word document and changed the font so I could read what you said. I love that your class is a mixed age group--so many different personalities and perspective to share in the experience :) And I completely understand about your motivation to improve your drawing skills--that is to "hone [your] skills to be a more effective painter." That's my motivation too! My first passion is painting and I realized last year that I really needed to focus on drawing techniques in order to improve my communication with painting. I know not everyone needs to do this or feels the need, but I am in the same boat with you. :)

    Cheers :)

    1. :-) i don't know how it became 'wingdings'! anyway, I have now changed the font so I hope all of you can read it. Thank you for pointing it out to me because I can see it as normal on my computer.
I do want to learn techniques more so because then I know what rules to break! It is a journey and I am glad to have great support from my blog friends!
      Thank you, Auroran
