From my sketchbook, with love.

“Fall seven times, stand up eight.” ~ Japanese Proverb

Well, I am like a toddler learning to walk, and the quote above does seem apt at the moment!

This week I would like to share some sketches that I did.

Wrestling with pencils, erasers, sharpeners years after school is definitely fun, especially if your classmates are tiny tots who sing loudly as they color with their crayons!

I stop my sketching at times to watch, smile and take it all in.

There is a cute little girl who keeps singing about rabbits as she paints and few boys, maybe fourth graders or so,  who are busy discussing games even as they paint their way through amazing landscapes or portraits!

My sketches have been mostly hands, feet, few faces, magazine pics, anything that caught my fancy.

based on Picasso's 'Girl with dove'.

These are all just grabbed off my sketchbook, so, it is a bit like looking backstage!

Even as I grapple with question of imitation versus self expression in art, I cannot deny that this exercise in sketching is indeed heightening my awareness of form, structure and representation.

For the moment, I am enjoying every moment of it.

Have a happy week, all of you!

  23. I always think that drawing is the structure for self expression... it allows you to find possibilities and push your ideas further... and I loved teaching littlies... they enjoy art with everything they have don't they... it brightens your whole day to be apart of it...xx
