Thought clouds...

Thoughts floating in my mind…

Like the intricate crisscrossing branches of this tree that I saw on a walk one day, my thoughts, at the moment, seem to be moving in all directions.

The brush in my hand has to do more than just paint pretty colors.

Like the words here, if it is to convey, through my art my own life impressions, should it not depict my heart, my thoughts – its moments of unrest and moments of calm and stillness?

The need to express freely also raises the question of not remaining within the set parameters of art that can please or delight. Art can shock…cut, wound deep under the skin, and unsettle.

Have you ever felt energy from an artwork so strong, that it held you in its trance, making you carry it with you long after?

I can name many works that have held me captive, like Munch’s scream, Francis Bacons works,  Dali’s works, and needless to say, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Picasso, Rousseau,…the list is long and unending and also includes Indian artists.

All these works remain in our consciousness and get embedded somewhere becoming a part of ourselves. It is not merely the delightful application of colors but the depth and intensity of expressions contained in the artworks that remains with us.

I think, through the process of a long dialogue with the self is born a lingo of expression, unique and as personal as one’s signature.

And to share with all of you, I have a whorl, a lotus on a stone. And, also a face, born from left over paint from another painting I was doing, looking out from behind trees...

  1. i have experienced this: All these works remain in our consciousness and get embedded somewhere becoming a part of ourselves

your lotus feels like a meditation, petal after petal
i enjoy how the petals are with the woman as well as the plant life, and the half face inspires mystery for me.
    Lovely Sunday to you.

  4. I love it how you compare your thoughts with the crisscrossing branches of this tree. It's a wonderful description! And I love your lotus stones too! I think it must be a very different experience to paint on stones instead of paper. And this magical face looking out from behind the trees leads me back to the crisscrossing branches ... somehow I think, you know where to go in a very magical way. It's wonderful!
