Pondside dreams and Matsya Avatar

The theme for this weeks paintings is water.

And I have quite taken to painting on the telephone book. I realized it is quite sturdy to take paints just as it can be great to sketch on using ball point pens. .

The first one is titled - Pondside Dreams. With a dash of imagination and the curling tendril of a gentle dream, the pondside world comes alive.

The second painting is inspired by the Matsya Avatar, (click on link to read the story) the story of the first avatar of Vishnu where he takes the form of a fish to save the world during a big flood. The similarities with Noahs Ark, Gilgamesh and various other flood myth stories from round the world just points to the motif of a universal cleansing before rebirth.

Finally, a word about what the sea, the prompt at AJJ,  makes me think - vast and infinite, it holds in a tiny drop whole volumes of words and wisdom to which it dances unceasingly.

We are mere observers of this great unending dance.

  3. Wow! I love how you get just a hint of the telephone book coming through. I love the colors with the birds and the motion of the swimmer. Such a good perspective.

  4. Greetings from AJJ.
Beautiful original artwork and I would have never thought of painting on a phone book page.
Our books seem to have such flimsy paper.

  6. Beautiful intricate patterned design, love the way everything curves round the pink leaf-flowers.
Lovely blues and flashes of orange in the second too.
Our telephone book pages are very flimsy, but it is worth a try, thanks for the idea.
