My Barn Owl

It was one night, early in summer,

the moon was out

Pouring its pearly light on the glossy mango leaves,

I heard a stirring midst the branches

And, looking through the window, met a pair of eyes

Staring right back at me,

Wise old eyes, they seemed to me

And, startled me a bit

But downright took my breath away,

When, with a shrill,

Two Whit Twooo Whooooo,

She sank swiftly, silently back into night.

I was inspired to draw this owl and write the poem  after seeing Netty's owl, here.

Thank you Netty for being my Muse today!

Another reason is a barn owl that was roosting in a next door vacant house.

My son clicked this pic that I would like to share with you,
